Hot Toys Retaliation Storm Shadow (2013)
I’m not a fan of the GI Joe live action movie Storm Shadow costume. I just don’t care for the aesthetic and don’t even get me started on Ninjas wearing tennis shoes. That being said when Hot Toys announced their Retaliation figure line I was thrilled. For those who may not know, Hot Toys is an Asian company that is known for their outstanding 12″ figures based on pop culture and movie proprieties. Their realistic sculpt, cut & sew and paint apps are second to none but come at a premium price as well. One benefit of the movie getting pushed back a year was a timely release of the Hot Toys figures which typically lag a year or more behind their subject material. I decided to go all in on this line after I saw their Snake Eyes figure who ended up being released 1 month before Storm Shadow. After getting him in hand, I have a new appreciation for the design. Beautiful details include real metal swords, the detail and heft is impressive to say the least. The tails on the jacket are wired so you are able to show some great motion in his poses. My favorite feature is the unmasked Byunh-hun Lee head sculpt, it is perfection. I like the sculpt so much I displayed it in favor of the masked sculpt for quite a while and ended up bashing a white suit version to display it alongside the ninja version. If anyone is interested I can post him sometime as well.
