Custom GI Joe Earrings (2012)

Following on from yesterday’s post: what do you get a woman who has everything for her birthday? Well, if you’re a GI Joe geek with a little bit of customizing skill, you make her some earrings using the classic Firefly field phone. Now before you pass out from the prospect of the Firefly phone with a tiny Dremel hole in it, chill out. I used some extra black versions I had from all those Urban Strike Team box sets I bought back in 2004. Hey, I love my wife, but I ain’t drillin’ a hole in an original.

I also appropriated two 1993 Star Brigade TARGAT submachine guns to make a pair of fabulous danglers. The guns were remolds from the Annihilator, only they’re cast in a fantastically fashionable shade of neon orange.

I first saw this kind of thing on Etsy a while back, so yeah I copped the idea. Kudos to whoever thought of it originally–I can’t remember your name. Brilliant idea.

Happy birthday, honey! I’m glad you like what you call your “orange Uzi” earrings (I can’t bear to tell her they’re not Uzis).

Update 4/02/12 – The earrings were inspired by Etsy seller Disarmingly Vulgar. Her store at is currently closed, but she says to check back this summer. Thanks again for the inspiration!

  • LOL “Hey, I love my wife, but I ain’t drillin’ a hole in an original.”

man that is so awesome, I bet that is right up Zarana’s ally! Double for Baroness…not too sure for Scarlett and Covergirl…maybe!..

Thanks for posting this, a great laugh!

  • Just when I thought I’d seen every Joe custom in the book… Happy Birthday to Mrs. Joe-A-Day!

  • Great idea! Uzi was a good guess. Closest I can figure those guns might be an HK MP5 with a scope, but the sculptor took great artistic license. Neon orange was the right choice, too (for the earrings).

  • those look great! it was quite likely that it was my shop that inspired you. its currently closed but check back over the summer!

  • Hi there! Do you know if they make any plugins to assist
with SEO? I’m trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I’m not seeing very good success. If you know of any please share. Cheers!
