GI Joe Plate

by NFCJD

GI Joe was everywhere during RAH era. This plate once had a mug and bowl that went with it but they are long lost in the sands of time. I’ve had this plate since I was 3 years old, I actually used to eat food off it when I was a toddler. It’s the only vintage era release Joe item I still have from my childhood. Good thing too because I’d never have thought to re-buy this like I did for so many of the toys once the internet became a thing. I didn’t even realize my parents had kept it till I uncovered it last year at my mother’s house. Before that, it had been a more than a decade, since I had seen it last being boxed up during the final PCS move my family made upon dad’s retirement from the US Army (he was an officer for 22 years). Then I found it again two weeks ago actually in the cupboard.

I wonder if my mother is planning to use it in the near future to feed my son Blake when she babysits him. Sure he’s only 6 months old now but it won’t be long till he’s eating food off normal kid dishware when he enters the toddler stage. And I feel proud. It would be awesome if my own kid used his old man’s GI Joe plate to eat his lunch off. I’m a lifelong Joe fanatic… my mother and father started me on it 30 years ago and this plate is proof… it’s their fault I’m still a nerd for America’s Moveable Fighting Man! Thanks mom and dad for buying it (and the toys) then and saving it for all this time.

  • I had trouble getting my three year old neice to eat of plates so i got her a Pinkie pie plate. Problem is she keeps trying to feed the picture of Pinkie rather then her own moutg

  • That is a superb piece from the brand’s initial year. It’s in excellent shape, too! Vintage card artwork and awesome colors. I hope Blake enjoys it as much as his daddy once did. And kudos to your parents for starting you off on Joes at the perfect time in the line’s history!

Nice review. This plate would look sweet with the G.I.Joe table cloth. That plate looks like you can display it like something from the Franklin Mint.
