Flint (2010)

Flint seems to always get mixed up in some sort of trouble when he goes on vacation. If he’s not finding brainwashed towns he’s running afoul of international terrorists across the pond. Guy can’t catch a break. At least he knows how to dress to impress no matter where he goes.

The body mold uses one of the great later 90s figures, Battle Corps Duke. It’s nicely nondescript and fits the character well. I’d say that this mold could work for a re-do of any number of early Joe figures. The bulkier builds that were released later in the line look a bit out of place next to many ’82-84 figures, but a little creative head swapping and repainting could have given us revisits of the original thirteen Joes. But back to the matter at hand; I’m just glad the club didn’t go with Flint’s original mold again, as it had become tiresome after two modern releases in 2004 and 2005.

The unique camo pattern against the bright green is what draws me to this figure. The green is a little too light to mesh perfectly with Action Force’s Z-Force unit, but despite that, I can see the resemblance. It makes sense considering that Flint is in the UK. He’s even got a patch of red with the insignia on his beret.

Flint wouldn’t be complete without a shotgun, and he’s got one here. He’s also carrying Outback’s iconic H&K with sling, a cool weapon to see in a new color.

  • A good mold that Hasbro could’ve used more.

It would’ve been interesting to see this mold painted in Flint’s original colors, too.

  • When we first heard Flint was going to be in the set, I had dreams of a V1 in real Action Force colors. (Sorry, I can’t agree the mold was tired. The lame Hasbro ’00’s paint jobs were, but the mold has a lot of life in it. But, it’s my favorite in the line, so I’m biased.) I was disappointed such a no brainer was missed. When I saw this figure, I was disappointed again that it didn’t have real Action Force green colors, even if the mold was decent.

This looks like a strong figure. (Still don’t have one in hand to be sure.) The gear is OK, but OK is a big step up from most other figures from the time.

This Duke mold was supposed to be repainted in green in 1995. So, this is a nice throwback to that. But, why couldn’t Hasbro just release the whole mold? They used some in 2004. Why wasn’t the HAS Duke this mold? Just more proof that Hasbro had a LOT more molds available than they let on and they really gave collectors the shaft. But, we did get this guy and he doesn’t appear to be bad. Plus, you can also get him in bright orange and no figure looks bad in bright orange.

  • You know his wife did get her collage degree in Irland

  • I just realized those Duke legs look remarkably like the ’92 Gung Ho legs, but aren’t. This Flint is interesting; the colors remind me of some exotic camo pattern. Or maybe his parachute landed him in a bog.

  • Is this the very last O-ring Joe figure ever made?

  • I think the ’94 Paratrooper Flint head would have been a better head on this body.
