Cobra Ferret ATV (2006)

The Ferret is one of the 80s Joe vehicles that I don’t think I’ll ever get fed up with. Others from the same period, like the AWE Striker, have really worn out their welcome. To me, the Ferret stands out much like the HISS tank in that respect. I don’t care if they released it in pink dalmation camo, I would pick it up.

In 2006, I did buy a set of Ferrets in lovely swirly-hued plastic, accented with red and gold elements. I prefer this version to its counterpart, as it not only represents Major Bludd’s superior looking group of baddies from that year’s set, but also gives us a callback to the original Ferret with its red highlights.

Say what you will about the number of times Hasbro has gone to the well with Cobra’s kickin’ four-wheeler, at least it’s deserving of a re-visit. And hey, considering the small size vehicle molds that were new around 2006, I’d say we were really fortunate. After all, we could have come home from con that year with marble fudge swirled Battle Blitzes. Bullet dodged.

I’ve always loved the Ferret, especially the bright blue Hasbro mail-away one. This one’s cool, too. This version of Major Bludd, I’m not a fan of.

Also just wanted to mention that I think the Ferret really fits in with the Dreadnoks better than a lot of vehicles like that one huge bike that was covered the other day.

  • The small vehicles are what made the Arah line so great. Not every kid could afford a Skystriker but small vehicles like the Ferret are easier and cheaper to find.

  • I agree, Skymate.

  • “…marble fudge swirled Battle Blitzes…” With a dark chocolate land-luge! I’ve always liked the Ferret. Sure it’s a little large, but ATVs were so popular in the early ’80s that having one for Cobra was rad. The swirled camo works well on this one, but the cheap 2011 Tiger Claw (with utility racks!) diminished my desire to track the ’06 versions down.

  • It was cool to see these molds return when they appeared at the con. But, I’m not a big fan of them since the original was so well done. But, for those who don’t collect the anniversary stuff, there aren’t too many Ferret options to choose from.
