1,000th Post!

It’s a milestone! I’m amazed that the blog is up to 1,000 posts. Wow, it seems like only yesterday that I started this crazy mess. Anyway, it kind of snuck up on me. But I am one to celebrate such things, so today I’ve put together a little something different to share. Check out the video…

  • You say “Why would I open something?” I say, “Why wouldn’t you open something?” After all, for all you know, it’s a box of stale rice cakes and Play-Doh until you’ve actually opened it.

  • A big CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!

I also bought and opened a Shark 9000 a couple years ago and really enjoyed putting it together. After I document it for 3DJoes I might repaint the neon parts and keep it out on display.

    Yo Joe!
    Carson

  • [Sighs] Nobody else has said it so i gues its up to me “ITS OVER NINE THOUSAAAAND”

It was twenty years ago when i found out the “truth” about Santa Clause. So leading up to x-mas in ’94, I purposly left a catalouge on the kitchen table, opened at the page with the shark 9000. Come X-mas morning, I saw two pointed white doo-das sticking out from the top of the bookshelf. i thought i had received a shark. On close inspection it was a pair of my Mothers shoes. Oh well. I’ll get a shark9000…one day

For x-mas this year, the only Joe item i got was a carded D.E.F Mace. I opened him and i have to say he’s really good for a D.E.F figure. If you can overlook his Mcdonalds chese coloured weapons and that idiotic head mounted missile launcher.

    @Neopolitan Joe
    Thats a nice collection

  • Nice review,Rob. I noticed a tower of cds in the background. Do you have any metal music?

  • Congrats on 1000 posts Rob, I’m checking in every day in the morning, your site is now my first stop for breakfast. Great work and you’ve built a wonderful site, I hope that when you get the opportunity that it is possible to create an index of all of your reviews as you have so much quality content it would be nice to be able to browse your reviews, though I’ll be honest when I found the site I had no problem just trolling through all of your reviews without one.

  • Thank you for doing what you do, Rob. I come here everyday at least once and sometimes more because I do love reading about Joes.

  • “Wow, 1000 shows! In all that time we’ve seen Sylvester Stallone rise and fall…riiise and fall…fall further, and somehow RISE again…WHO COULD SURVIVE “Rhinestone”??? HE’S NOT HUMAN, I TELL YA!”

Cookie to anyone who got the reference….

  • Congrats rob I really enjoy your site everyday, I had the shark 9000 when I was a kid and I really liked it. I also liked this cutter better than the def one too, gotta love some olive green. But great job liked the video review hope to see more.

  • Congrats Rob, great idea!

  • I have never seen that vehicle, I like it. Fun idea for the milestone. Congratulations on 1k, here’s to 1k more!

  • Congrats on hitting 1000, Rob. I always wanted the Shark 9000 as a kid, but never actually found it at stores. I always thought that was kind of a bummer.

  • Major Congratulations on reaching the 1,000th mark, Rob!!! I’m thinking that Boots Randolph’s “Yakety Sax” from the Benny Hill Show would have fit right in during the speedup sequence. ๐Ÿ™‚

Opening something up was a great idea for this post. I always wondered what the Shark 9000 looked like up close and now, I want it! The neon red blends in well here with the other colors since it amounts to a vehicle done in the old red, white, and blue! What could be more proper for the Joe line?

The action features are cool, there’s a lot of room for figures, and the ramp is a nice homage to the Killer W.H.A.L.E. In fact, you could say that the Shark 9000 is sort of a minimalist version. The repainted Cutter works nicely with the green life vest harkening back a bit to the original ’82 Joes.

    Here’s to the next 1,000!!!

  • @Neapolitan Joe

That’s quite a vehicle haul you have there, buddy. Looks like you’ve got everything covered on your end, collection wise. Thanks for sharing!

  • Congratulations Rob! That’s quite a milestone. I try and check in everyday as part of my morning routine although sometimes, if I’m travelling, I miss a few and have a nice bonus backlog when I get back.

@NeopolitanJoe – that new wife of yours must be very understanding ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Thank You guys!
Another thing: I love this blog!
Rob, go on for other 100.000!

  • Congratulations on 1,000 posts! And great review of the Shark 9000 (anyone know why it’s 9,000, and not Mk.II or something?). I’ve seen these repainted a la the WHALE, and they look great. By the way, launching the shark-pedoes was my favorite part.

  • I’ll echo congratulations as well. I found this site later than most, but took the time to go back page by page, reading entries that interested me til I got to the very beginning (granted, not all in one sitting) and enjoyed it. Joe A Day has become one of my regular stops on the internet.

As for Shark 9000… it’s not OVER 9000!… it’s right on 9000. Doing a quick check, that meme originated from an 11/29/89 Dragon Ball Z episode, but said episode didn’t get dubbed into English for US airing until 4/19/97 (and who knows how long it took to become a meme). I think they just made up a number that sounded big. 2000 was probably too close to the year. They could’ve used 3000 or 5000. Maybe they just liked the sound of 9000.

  • @Little Boa
I had no idea Dragonball Z was that old. I had no idea the show even existed until the year 2000 when one of the breakfast shows in my area picked it up. I got the meme from TJTV which was one of the cartoon/tv show review shows i used to watch.

I’m guessing the “9000” was used in place of “W.H.A.L.E MK 2” as it sounded more futuristic.

  • Congrats! I really enjoy reading your entries each day and look forward to many more. Keep it up.

  • Congratulations! I’m so proud of you for keeping at doing this crazy thing you love so much! Not only is 1,000 posts an amazing accomplish, it’s all top notch writing! And, a great community has coalesced around all your hard work! I’m looking forward to seeing what you do next. A calendar, or book, perhaps? ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Congrats buddy! Awesome work.
