The Power of Packaging: 1983 Tripwire

Tripwire isn’t the most exciting of GI Joe characters, but I found his figure useful in my battles. He functioned not only as a mine detector/bomb disposal specialist, but he also laid mines. Why else would they have included a mine-toting backpack?

The card art was confusing to me as a kid. I thought his left arm position made it look like he was leaning on a wall. Of course, he’s motioning others to stay back. Makes sense. I guess I was a bit dense back then.

I knew Tripwire was clumsy, but that’s gotta be one of the funnier file cards.

  • There was always a string of mines in front of my Joes’ HQ. Tripwire is a figure I shouldn’t care much about, but he was always around. Pretty dynamic cardart, too.
