Cobra C.L.A.W.S. (2004)

The Cobra CLAWS mold was quite well traveled from 2002 to 2004. It seems like whenever a fill-in troop builder or driver was needed, the CLAWS was there to fit the bill. This particular flavor was the driver of the Venom Striker, a crimson-hued redeco/remold of the Joe team’s assualt quad from earlier in the relaunch era. Back when this

Ace (2004)

Since the 80s, Ace has been one of those Joe driver (or in this case, pilot) mainstays that you can be sure will make an appearance in whatever current form GI Joe takes. He’s been around for most of the various reboots and scale changes over the decades, even making it into the modern era along with a remade Skystriker.

Razor Trooper (2004)

No, it’s not the code name for the Cobra barber. Instead it’s a trooper based upon another named Cobra agent. Razorclaw was an individual released during Valor vs. Venom, and as such, had been genetically modified by Dr. Mindbender. Surprisingly, the man was given his own cadre of troops to lead, all of whom shared a similar uniform and weaponry.

Overkill (2005)

This is the third mold of the BAT leader namesake that began first as a robot in the 90s and then later became a cyborg. This time, he’s a cyborg again. Can you tell? I found the design to be a bit chilling for a child’s toy, considering the exposed face and truly robotic looking body. Maybe I’m just sensitive

Snake Eyes (2004)

Yes, it’s yet another Snake Eyes, the man whose overexposure in geek culture/toy circles seems rivaled only by the likes of pop culture juggernauts Wolverine and Boba Fett. To a certain extent, many fans still love the guy, despite the fact he’s been everywhere in the Joe mythos for years and years. Why? Maybe it’s due to his never eclipsing

Venomous Maximus (2004)

First off, spoiler alert if you haven’t seen the direct to DVD Valor vs. Venom special. Venomous Maximus is the DNA modified form of General Hawk. In the special, Dr. Mindbender combined the good General’s DNA with all sorts of animals. The result was a brutal, feral and ruthless leader who had instant aspirations to take over Cobra. Sort of

Dr. Link Talbot (2004)

The first time I wrote about Link Talbot, the team’s first combat veterinarian, I couldn’t find his first figure version in my big ole box o’ Joes, so I grabbed the second. Wait, I hear you say–second figure? That’s right, Link Talbot has garnered two figures in the history of GI Joe. Hard to accept? Maybe. I mean, even Super

Cobra BAT II v3.2 (2004)

Hasbro went absolutely BAT excrement crazy during the 2000s relaunch series. This one mold saw seven different releases in various colour schemes, and the later bike short wearing bot was available four times. Even the 1991 mold was brought back into service. I suppose the reason for getting so many out as Cobra troops speaks to their suitability as easily

Gung Ho (2004)

At what point do you think action features in a toy go too far? While some toy lines over the years made action features standard fare (Masters of the Universe comes to mind) others like GI Joe (until the 1990s) generally hadn’t. The floodgates opened during that most noxiously neon of decades, and the Joe team was suddenly sporting missile

Scarlett (2004 Desert Patrol Squad)

Through the 80s and 90s, Scarlett it seemed had been immune to the special teams reinterpretations that were so prevalent among her male comrades. While Duke, Flint and the like had been members of Tiger Force, Night Force, Star Brigade, and even the Eco Warriors, Scarlett had only made one appearance in the Ninja Force subset. As such, she wore
