One of the most unique aspects of the GI Joe series since its inception in the 1960s has been its attention to minute detail and mundane accessories. Sure, every fighting soldier needs a uniform, helmet and weaponry, but they also require the necessities of food, shelter and supplies. From items like canteens and mess kits in the 60s to tents in the 70s, some thought was given to how Joe manages whilst fighting and adventuring. The minutiae of the toys lent themselves well to diorama building, and helped kids flesh out their adventures.

To that end in the 1980s line, the team received several small vehicles and sets that filled the role of battlefield support. For every Duke, Flint and Snake Eyes out in the field, there’s a legion of support personnel and material making their missions possible.

The weapons transport by Geewunner recreates the, well…Weapon Transport of 1985. It’s a small build, but quite solid. As we’ve seen with other Geewunner offerings, the vehicle is very faithful to its original counterpart. The basic silhouette is correct, and details like the bulky main wheels, front grille and fins on the rear bomb carrier are even recreated. As someone who’s not all that knowledgeable about just how many different pieces Lego has manufactured over the years, I’m always amazed to see elements that match specific parts of the old Joe toys.

Offering this vehicle alongside more common Joe fare like the VAMP and AWE Striker was a wise decision. It also strikes me as a very Lego-like set to incorporate into the Joe brick world. There were always a lot of front line, exciting sets within the famous brick company’s various themes, but support and secondary vehicles and tools also often get their due.
