Hombre in 1973 Wards Christmas Catalog

“Hombre” Means Man! Such says the Montgomery Wards 1973 Christmas catalog. I suppose some folks had to have the word explained to them back in the day. Regardless, Hombre is a GI Joe knockoff in the vein of the Adventure Team, although he looks more akin to Mego’s Action Jackson in the face. He’s sporting some mighty fine sideburns. I dig his extra floppy boonie hat!

  • if GI JOE was the Patton of toy soldiers, Hombre was Montgomery…Wards.

  • If I recall correctly, this ‘ hombre ‘ didn’t have joints, but rather, a wire armature frame. In other words, you bent him in a pose, and he stayed that way. At least, until the wire was bent too many times and broke. Not un hombre macho or fuerte. Que lastima.
