GI Joe Moment of Zen: Ninja Basketball

Presenting another new feature for Joe A Day. With more than a little nod to The Daily Show (okay, I ripped off the name) it’s the GI Joe Moment of Zen. Each Saturday, I’ll be presenting a snippet from the rich history of GI Joe media (cartoons, commercials, movies, comics) for you to ponder. Now here’s Ninja Force Storm Shadow with your GI Joe Moment of Zen…

  • I must point out… he was traveling… the basket doesn’t count.

  • I thought you were allowed 3 steps… He only took 3 if you count the hands on the ground.

    • I believe you are only allowed to pivot on one foot(or hand in this case?) and not take steps without dribbling. Ninja are always breaking the rules.

  • I think you also have to question traveling considering how seldom it’s called in pro basketball anymore. đŸ˜‰

Love the idea of a Joe Moment of Zen, Rob. I’m looking forward to seeing what other crazy cartoon moments you’ve got in store. After having watched the original series a while back, I have more than a few moments that I hope (and bet) are going to show up here at some point.

  • That would’ve looked a lot cooler without the cutesy background music. It’s freaking G.I. Joe, not the Smurfs! Still, I’m guessing that DIC watchers will soon be looking back at this series while experiencing pangs of nostalgia much like older fans do with the Sunbow material. Or not.

Despite the weak voice work and crappy music, the characters there did look awesome: Stormy, Snakes, Tracker, Hawk, Scarlett, and Major Altitude, who acted more like Wildcard did in the comic. I can’t believe that we didn’t get a DIC Scarlett in her original outfit during this period, ditto for Lady Jaye.

  • Which episode is that from?
The only way i could obtain the series down here was by buying a bootleg set which is of poor quality. Most of my negetive comments about the series come from that tacky set.

I remember, back in the early 90’s, when basketball was really popular, my little brother really wanted to play but as he was so lazy the thought of frequent movement put him of so he just watched games instead.

    • It’s from an episode called Shadow of a Doubt, a second season episode. The DIC sets in the US are better than bootleg quality, but still leave a lot to be desired in terms of the video. Definitely not comparable to the Sunbow sets.

  • @ Rob
    Thanks for the intel.
After seeing “Thats entertainment” i’ve been compelled to make a custom of “Comedian” Cobra caommander

  • Ugh, I want to like the DIC series, but it’s so… bad. I wish it were either good (!) or full-bore bad, if the whole show echoed the feel of this clip. Over the top corny, like Ninja Turtles or something.

  • @Cyko9
I’ve be writting reviews for every Joe episode i can find for every series as i hope to have a website dedicated to all Joe cartoons one day. What i thought was very irritating about THATS ENTERTAINMENT was that Jackie Love [a carbon copy of Bob Hope] “bad” jokes were funnier than all the shtick and forced slapstick in the episode.

  • Argh!
