Get Ready for Action and Adventure

I’ve been re-reading some of the comics from my younger days lately thanks to the miracle of comic scans. The fact that anything I want to read is at my fingertips is quite amazing.

More amazing are the discoveries of advertisements within the pages. Some I can recall vividly, and others seem new to me. This GI Joe ad was a pleasant surprise inside the cover of a 1988 annual. What’s more late 80s geek—the Fridge or Speedball?

  • $3.50 plus shipping and handling in 1988 was not a great deal. I didn’t take advantage of many mail aways as a kid due to this. The figs weren’t something I wanted badly enough to pay over retail to acquire. I’d like a do-over on that thinking…..

  • Dreadnok: Spirit

I remember this ad well. That HISS Tank was only fifty cents more than a figure.

    • For some reason over the years it was available, the HISS was consistently cheaper compared other mail-in vehicles. It’s funny that shipping and handling was not per item. You could order everything and still only pay $1.75 s&h for all of it.

  • Kinda neat to see that Iron Grenadier hanging of the back of a v1 HISS. Like Daredevil, I’m not too sure about Speedball…
