General Mayhem (2005)

General Mayhem, released as part of 2005’s convention set, ties in nicely to the 2012 Oktober Guard vs. Iron Grenadiers convention theme. He’s a part of the Grenadiers, obviously, but also has a background in the Russian special forces.

If there was ever an example of the difference some extra paint apps can make for a mold, this is it. The WORMS mold has always been one of my favorite drivers, mostly because of its ornate, almost dress uniform style. It really didn’t befit a vehicle driver, but functions fantastically as a general’s outfit. The small painted accents bring out a lot of detail that wasn’t readily apparent in its first appearance.

The helmet might cause one at first glance to think that this is a new version of Voltar, and using Long Range’s similarly styled monocular helmet makes for an obvious comparison. The helmet, which on Long Range was molded in a solid color, is greatly improved by the extra paint apps. The only drawbacks to the figure are the fact that the helmet is glued on, and the man’s real name. Mayhemovski, seriously? How ridiculouski.

  • Really, though… isn’t this just G.I. Joe’s take on Miles Mayhem?

(Would’ve been cool to have one of those for the 25th line to go opposite Matt Trakker…)

  • The helmet on my figure wasn’t glued.. ??

  • For some reason, I always envision him being voiced in an animated series by Jim Cummings.

  • The helmet is glued on? This figure is high on my list of “someday” purchases but what gives? It’s such a great reuse of parts from Gnawgahyde, Long Range and W.O.R.M.S. Still, I would have preferred him as an update of Voltar although the club eventually got to him as well. (For some of us.)

  • Ridiculouski indeed

  • I really like this figure, it’s a new character and adds to an existing faction which is great plus it’s an excellent recolour of a great mold. I’m not sure why Destro’s army needs two generals though and the Gnawgahyde head is a little too distinctive – the helmet on mine isn’t glued on either and show’ no signs that it ever was. As for the file-name, it’s a bit daft but then so is a hovercraft pilot calles Skip A Stone or a mountaineer called Albert Pine!

    • Or an army engineer who calls himself “Chuck X. (for nothing) Goren”.

As for Mayhem’s presence, I see it as Destro having a general for each aspect of his Iron Grenadiers:
-Voltar heads the general ground forces.
-Mayhem leads the spec-ops troops and aerial forces.
-Darklon is in charge of the armor division.
-Metal-Head leads the heavy weapons soldiers.

  • I always hated this fig, the name is groan worthy and the head looks like Gnagahyde. It looks like Gnaghyde on halloween or something.

  • Mayhemovski…Ah! Ah! Ah!
