Escape From Doom!

This promotional catalog from 1990 features the Micro figures and vehicles prominently on its cover. This is one of the most interesting diorama shots from the various GI Joe catalogs, not only because of its atmosphere, but also its scale. Those are some tiny figures, vehicles and buildings. An interesting take on the usual “small” GI Joes, to be sure. Here, they’re even smaller! What if GI joe relaunched as a miniature figure and detailed, scaled vehicle line? Would you go for it? I’d buy a scaled HQ and Terrordrome.

  • I am working on a Joe themed Imperial guard army. Most recent completion is Platoons 83 and 88

  • Dreadnok: Spirit

On the subject of smaller scale Joes, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Joes done in the M.A.S.K. scale and style. The A Real American Hero and M.A.S.K. lines are easily two of my all-time favorites.

  • They kind of did that recently with the Micro Force line, which I loved. Two bad it didn’t make it past the first series.

I’m making my own customs that are about the size of those micro figures using Heroclix, but I’d buy them if they sold them.

And I agree with having them at M.A.S.K. scale too. I considered picking up some of those Guardians of the Galaxy figures that are that size to try making custom Joes.

  • Mask scale was very close if not exactly 1/24 or 1/25 the traditional model car scales the truck that Hondo drove was an exact copy of a MPC kit that I had.

    • I had not considered MASKs scale prior, I had never thought to try MASK figures out in any of the models I had at the time. Would have been fun to try!

  • I’ve really come to enjoy the micro figures and to some extent the vehicles. That building must be some kind of railroad model!

  • I would be very interested in a vehicle/ play set centric line with smaller scale figures.

The Star Wars MicroMachine Action Fleet seemed interesting to me, ultimately real life economics prevented my purchases on these. However, I have picked up a couple of these older ones over the years, and it was pointed out to me that the figures are almost H.O. scale. I thought that was interesting. I would definitely think that building is from a railroad model kit, too. (on the side note of model railroading, it seems like that is a slowing hobby to a point as well, as potential hobbyists find themselves with less time and space to dedicate.

I would prefer a slightly bigger figure, however, than that H.O. scale. But, I really like the detail that was on some of the Action Fleet ships. And at that size, I could really see a detailed aircraft carrier that wouldn’t need to be the coffee table in your living room. Probably only an end-table at worst.
