Attack Glider (Geewunner.com)

Attack Glider (Geewunner.com)Of all the GI Joe toys I had as a kid, the Falcon glider was at once one of the most fun and frustrating. Made of foam, not the most robust of construction materials, the Joes’ glider didn’t last through many adventures. Within days of its purchase, I had made some hasty (and not quite aerodynamic) repairs to the vertical fins. Within weeks, the Falcon was grounded for good. A few months later, all that remained was the plastic mount for the pilot and Tan Grunt himself. Sad, really. As an adult collector, I’ve wanted another Falcon, just for display.

The Attack Glider is the simplest build we’ve covered, but that doesn’t mean it’s not fun. I’m actually relieved that Hasbro didn’t give the Falcon a go in the Kre-O line, as it most likely would have ended up as a green version of the sad little CLAW build. Once again, this is a custom that gets the little details right. From the patterned camouflage to the gun mounts, the Falcon is well represented.

Of the elements of brick building that I find interesting, the abstraction of shapes holds the most sway. There’s something playful and dare I say artistic about putting these little squares of plastic together to form rounded or curving shapes. The way that Geewunner has portrayed the Falcon glider’s camo is pretty inventive. The simplified shapes read like the patterns they should in this squared-off, bricky Joeverse.
